Darren Thompson is a Public Ally
serving as a Community
Development Specialist for Urban Strategies. Darren is Ojibwe from the
Lac du
Flambeau Indian Reservation in Northern Wisconsin. He brings years of
direct
experience in working with American Indian communities, organizations,
and
governments in non-profit work, government collaboration, as an
independent
consultant, and as a music artist.
His passion for his community has
served as a foundation to motivate him in all endeavors of his life. The
variety of capacities he has worked in has exposed him to a rich
diversity of
people, organizations, and institutions that confirm the importance of
diversity,
cultural preservation, and changing times. His experience with diversity
and
cultural competence serves as a great asset for many of Urban
Strategies’
projects.
Darren serves as a representative for
the Wisconsin AmeriCorps Representative Council, an advisory board
member for
the First Nations Composers Initiative, and a board member for the
Milwaukee
Urban Indian Health Board. Darren
attended Marquette University for Criminology & Law Studies and is
planning
on completing his undergraduate degree so that he may continue to Law
School.
