Karen Gotzler , Urban Strategies COO, served on the Core Team for The Denali Initiative, a social enterprise development project of Manchester Craftsman’s Guild, a 3‐year national fellowship program for executive directors funded by Kauffman and Kellogg Foundations in the mid‐1990’s. She continues to teach at UWM School for Continuing Education and consult around the country on social enterprise and nonprofit income diversification.
Teaching and facilitating is a particular pleasure of Karen’s. She conducts classes on strategic planning and social enterprise for University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (UWM) School of Continuing Education (SCE), Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee and Wisconsin Community Action among others. She has made scores of presentations to university classes, Association of Fundraising Professionals and Agency Executive Groups and individual boards of directors.
Karen served on the Implementation Committee for the national Council on Foundations’ Standards for U.S. Community Foundations and developed the Donors Forum of Wisconsin guide to standards for Community Foundations.
While President & CEO of the Urban Economic Development Association of Wisconsin, Karen led a membership and provided technical assistance and program evaluation in affordable housing, commercial revitalization, neighborhood development and workforce concerns. Karen’s work for many years as program and executive staff in direct service and intermediary nonprofit organizations. | |
